The owner of a downtown convenience store was arrested March 13 after authorities discovered more than 20 kegs of beer being stored in a side alley.
Himanshubhai Patel, 28, known by many students as Monty, owner of Pine Hills Market on the corner of Ontario Street and Hudson Avenue, was charged with unlicensed warehouse liquor storage.
The arrest came at 1:14 a.m. on the morning of "Kegs and Eggs," an annual pre-St. Patrick's Day celebration that is often associated with an overabundance of drinking.
According to Detective James Miller, spokesman for the Albany Police Department, Patel unlawfully stored 26 kegs of Keystone Light beer in an alley on the east side of the market.
Miller said the arrest was based on an ongoing investigation by the State Liquor Authority inwhich there was word that the market would be receiving a large order.
"The Albany Police Department, our partners in law enforcement, brought this to our attention," said New York State Liquor Authority spokesman Mike Smith. "This incident, the illegal storage of alcohol may lead to further actions taken against the Pine Hills Market."
Patel declined to comment on the situation.

How long before they bust him for burning down the store 2 years ago? Who woulda thunk it. We need a nice white run deli in the downtown area. A place where the schwoogie darkies dont feel welcome and know they will disappear into the back room never to be seen again for f'n around. Lotsa money to be made selling cigarettes, bacon and egg sandwiches, and 4 loco. Time to put the squeeze on these snake charmers, the old irish/ italian way. They can take their show on the road to say...the Bronx or downtown Brooklyn. Staten Island in the house.
