The UAlbany men’s and women’s indoor track teams both took home the America East Conference Championship on Saturday. It was the women’s first-ever conference title in indoor track.
The victory was the men’s fifth consecutive title, eclipsing the mark of four straight wins set by Northeastern from 1989-92.
For the women, the deciding event was the triple jump. After battling with Boston University throughout the day, the Danes were able to come out on top after Sandy Antenor finished in third place in the competition. The finish gave the Danes 168.5 points to BU’s 162, earning them the title.
The victory by the women broke a four-year winning streak set by the Terriers and marked the first time since 2005 that both the men and women of a school have taken home both titles. That feat was last accomplished by Northeastern.
Men’s team member Alie Beauvais broke a meet record set 19 years ago by winning the 500-meter dash in 1:02.32, as he was one of seven members of the team who finished first in their events.
Nasim Siddeeq finished first in the men’s triple jump and second in the long jump with a distance of 50 feet, 2 inches.
The men finished the day with 205 points, finishing way ahead of second-place finisher Binghamton, who ended the tournament with 138 points.
Women’s team member Fey Adaramola was named Most Outstanding Track Performer of the meet after finishing first in both the 55-meter and 200-meter dashes, breaking her own school record in the 200 in the process.
