Freshman Sean Halpin and sophomore Ada Lauterbach led the UAlbany men’s and women’s cross-country teams respectively to top-five finishes in last Saturday’s America East Conference Championships.
Halpin finished 20th among 81 runners with the time of 26:28.20 to lead the men to a fourth-place finish – the team’s highest finish at the meet since 2004 – while Lauterbach finished the 5,000-meter course 17th among 80 runners in 17:56.90 to lead the women to a fifth-place tie.
The rest of the Danes men’s top-five runners finished in the top 30 with redshirt freshman Paul Lagno (23rd, 26:38.50), sophomore Chris Manico (24th, 26:43.00), junior John Moore (26th, 26:50.60), and freshman Craig Weiss (30th, 26:59.30) rounded out UAlbany’s top five. Freshman Alex Leuchenka didn’t run due to an illness.
Junior Jenn Pierson (21st, 19:35.40), freshmen Miranda McConnell (23rd, 19:37.50), Melissa Del Rosario (40th, 20:17.40) and Brianna Service (46th, 20:42.40) finished out the UAlbany women’s top five.
The Great Danes will continue their postseason next Saturday, Nov. 14, at 2:30 p.m. when they travel to Franklin Park, Boston, Mass., to compete in the NCAA Northeast regional.
