As the semester progresses, events at UAlbany are always happening. Many students in particular look forward to the annual event, FallFest and this year is no different.
On Nov. 12, FallFest will feature the bands LMFAO and Far East Movement.
LMFAO considers themselves an "electro hop" duo, from Los Angeles. They are known for the party-starting hits such as "Shots" and "Party Rock Anthem".
Although in today's abbreviated world, LMFAO stands for "Laughing my F**king ass off", they often say there name stands for "Loving friends and others". Their song "Get Crazy" is also featured in the "Jersey Shore" theme song.
According to SA representative Dajuan Walker, the budget for Fallfest was slightly increased from $70,000 to $100,000. This increase was due to the cancellation of Fountain Day.
"The Fountain Day budget was spread out throughout all areas of SA," Walker said.
Far East Movement, also of Los Angeles, is best known for their song "Like A G6." They are one of the first Asian-American groups to make the Billboard Top 100 list.
Their more recent song "Rocketeer" features Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic. They chose the band's name based on their Asian-American heritage.
Other acts that were considered by SA include Katy Perry, Black Eyed Peas, and Pitbull.
Although normally Fallfest is a rock or alternative group, Walker said he wants to "do something different."
His focus is to "instill better school spirit, and get away from the politics and drama." His goal is to bring an event to UAlbany that will be fun and unique. Walker hopes that these acts will bring a fun, energetic crowd that will ensure an unforgettable evening.
Another interesting effect that Walker hopes to bring to Fallfest this year is some special effects. N-Effect Productions, who have a special contract with LMFAO offer laser light effects and choreographed lighting.
"There won't be any haze or smoke as of right now, but I'm working on it," Walker said. "It's very possible, but it's just a matter of talking to some people."
Fallfest is hosted by Student Association, and will be located at the SEFCU Arena. Tickets will be $10.
"I basically just want everybody to come out and have a good time," Walker said. "I think this is going to be a great time."
